Weight gain, weight loss. Some people are on diet all their life but never be able keep out those weight. Have you though about the stress is the cause behind your out control eating habit? and impair your digestion and metabolism?
Patient came last week with neck and upper shoulder and back pain. She also has headache sometime too. She explained to me she has a high stress job, which require a lot of thinking all the time. This week she comes back with big smile and feeling great. As we go through the history taking, she asked me did I treat her with weight loss? I said, “ No, we did not talk about that.” I was focus on stress release and stop the muscle spasm pain.” She said, “ That is strange. After last week's treatment, till now I have lost 4 Lb. I don't craving for sweet any more and have more energy. Could my weight gain was from my stress? She asked.
In Chinese Medicine, stress cause a person over eating or lose appetite is explained as Liver acting on Spleen. Liver qi got stagnate because the stress restricted the qi and blood normal flow cause pain and indigestion, which affecting spleen and stomachs’ normal function.
There are two group of people have different reaction with food intake under stressful situation. Some use food to comfort their stress and some will lost their appetite.  Once the liver under too much stress, it will further damage the spleen and stomachs’ qi and affecting it's normal function. Sweet taste has a tonify function. So when a person’s spleen and stomach qi is down, they tend to craving for sweet to gain the energy back.
Therefore, indirectly my patient lost weight by simply not feeling stress. Not craving for the sweet is the result of spleen qi recover.
Two Herbal formulas was prescript to her:
